Musician, Cellphonist, Painter
Emerging from the desolation and immeasurable skies of the Great Plains, Pat Noecker arrived in New York City on New Year’s Eve of 1997 to follow his passion for art fueled music projects manifested in seminal post-punk bands such as These Are Powers and LIARS. His groups have performed in numerous cultural venues including MoMA, the Whitney, PS1, the Getty Museum, London ICA, and the San Francisco Fillmore. Noecker has released over a dozen albums with his various projects and toured with icons including Sonic Youth, Suicide, and Wire. Noecker’s current solo project, RAFT, is an exploration of conceptual composition that fuses new and experimental mediums including iPhone, which led him to be called “the world first cellphonist”, while seeking to collapse the boundary between audience and performer by incorporating crowd-sourced content into his performances. Noecker is also the curator of ASSEMBLE, an improvisational collaborative performance series that has featured musicians and composers including Bob Boilen, Maria Chavez, Taraka Larson, and Greg Fox. He is also a a painter and his works can be viewed at http://instantpat.wordpress.com.
