Mariko Mori

Mariko Mori

Artist

Originally from Japan, Mariko Mori is an artist whose work has travelled across the world. She gained recognition for her interactive installation WAVE UFO which debuted in 2003 in Austria then later was included in the 2005 Venice Biennale.  In 2010, she launched the FAOU Foundation, a not-for-profit entity, with an ambitious goal to create a series of site-specific art installations on six habitable continents.  Her current work focuses on “A world in which human beings are one with nature, wherein the rhythms of humanity coincide with that of the natural environment.”  Her most recent projects are site-specific works that interact with their natural surroundings. She splits her time between Tokyo, London and New York, and also spends her time in Okinawa, Japan.  (Portrait by David Sims)
